I am enjoying reading the articles on the FC Seattle Storm British tours in ’87 and ’88. I was just a kid back then but was lucky to be there at both games they played against my local club Middlesbrough, as a guest of Seattle (my relative David was an ex-Sounder and part of the FC Seattle Storm set-up). Great memories!

Nice article about the SeaDogs a while back. Regarding the trophy, a coworker mentioned that he saw the championship banner hanging at Arena Sports in SoDo for years afterwards. Perhaps the people there might know something.
Recently found your blog and LOVE the historical “Know Your History” pieces. I have a lot of great memories and memorabilia from the NASL and WSL days and your posts really bring that era back to life. I look forward to reading many more of them.

I have only just come upon your website and the story about my dear old friend Denzil and Sports Specialties. I just wanted to comment that the original sight of his store was located on Alki Beach. My father (Sid Ryles) and I actually helped Denzil relocate all the gear to his second location. We loaded all of the boxes of uniforms, shoes, balls and misc. equipment into an open top box truck borrowed from Taylor Edwards Warehouse and Transfer where my dad worked.
Denzil was a close family friend, one of my coaches and in later years, after I relocated to Wenatchee, my uniform and equipment supplier as a coach and a player right up through 2008 when he closed shop. Not long after he closed I received a package with a pair of Puma shoes and a pair of Uhlsport keepers gloves that I had purchased (many pairs of) in the past from Denzil. He included a note that read, “David, I always had these in the store for you in a box that had Ryles written on it. I figured you may still need them. Thanks for everything, Denzil.”
I wore those shoes and gloves the last two seasons I played indoor here in Wenatchee.
He was certainly an intricate part of Seattle’s early soccer history and one of it’s most endearing characters.
